Canon Point: Post death
Gender & Sex: Male & Male
Age: ~17 --> 18!
Birthdate/Sign: June 9 - Gemini (canon)
Tattoo: On his left bicep, about 4 inches across
Suitability:
Mondo is physically about 17 in his canon. However, due to the plot by the mastermind group behind Monobear, his memories of the past two years were wiped clean, so he believes that he is younger. However, despite this he's definitely mature and capable enough to be suitable for an envinronment like Zodion.
In Dangan Ronpa, Mondo and his classmates are trapped inside their school and told that the only way they will ever be allowed to leave is if they kill their fellow classmates without detection. It's a high-stress environment that is full of horror and tragedy. So even though the students are just that -- students -- they have to face very adult circumstances and look out for themselves.
Beyond that, it's the bonds that they form that make things bearable. Despite Mondo's succumbing to his own weakness and fear of that weakness being found out, and in turn killing one of his classmates in a moment of blacked out rage, he is perfectly capable of dealing with new and stressful situations. He's self sufficient. And despite the fact that he talks about striking out in his attempts with dating because he tends to yell and be aggressive, he has no hangups about sex/dating/etc.
Really, being trapped in a place whose condition is "please have sex" is much better than his last situation of being trapped in a place whose condition was "haha kill each other" so. Moving on up!
Power: Air - Summoning
Personality:
Mondo tends to act very much how he looks. He's rough around the edges, quick to yell or take offense. He is the current leader of a well-known motorcycle gang. As such he is used to living in a world where fighting and contests of dominance are the norm. He says so himself, when speaking with Naegi, that he always barrels straight on and headfirst in a fight and doesn't back down. He also explains that he charges for whoever the head of the other group may be. For all his comfort with violence and fighting, he does take his position as gang leader seriously. The gang is one of the most important parts of his life, and Mondo genuinely seems as though he would do anything for the good of the gang. He gets very stressed out about being trapped in Hopes Peak because of his obligations and his duty to be leading the Crazy Diamonds gang (unbeknownst to him, it's been years longer than he thinks and the world has fallen to difficult destruction and despair filled times.) Even if he may be something of a hot head, he's a dedicated one.
One of the reasons that Mondo is so dedicated is a promise that he made to his older brother, Daiya, on Daiya's death bed. He promised that he would look out for the gang and lead them well. This promise is both his driving strength and a huge contributor to some of his biggest weaknesses. Mondo is a firm believer in "a man's promise" and will go to any lengths to see the ones that he makes are kept -- something that can be seen in his actions after Daiya's death as well as what he does after he murders Chihiro to keep his promise to the other student even after his death. Despite his status as a delinquent and a leader of a motorcycle gang, Mondo seems to live by a strange self-imposed code of almost-chivalry. He keeps his promises at any cost, and he outright refuses to hit a woman. In fact when Naegi suggests even a friendly spar with Sakura (who, despite her name, is no fragile flower), Mondo flips out and yells that he could never hit a woman at all, no matter what the reason happened to be.
Beneath the tough exterior that he works so hard to portray, however, Mondo is full of inner conflicts and weaknesses. Some of them he begins to overcome before his death, others are ultimately his downfall. To begin with, Mondo has an absolute fear of ever being found out to be weak. He lives much of his younger life in the shadow of his older brother. Even when it becomes time for him to take over leadership of the gang from Daiya, Mondo fears the whispers that he is a pale comparison to Daiya, and that he will be second best if nothing else. This fear of being perceived as not good enough or not strong enough leads him to challenge his brother to a race, and to drive as hard as he can, even being reckless and disregarding his own safety as well as Daiya's. As a result, Daiya is struck and killed, but he makes Mondo promise to keep the gang strong even after his death. Because he fears what would happen if the gang realizes that he and his weakness were the reason for Daiya's death, he lies and says that Daiya had driven recklessly because he was desperate to beat Mondo. He keeps up this lie and is terrified of the truth ever getting out. The way that he buries his fear about his own weakness eventually leads to a very dangerous situation. When Monobear threatens to reveal the truth of his brother's death, the idea of it begins to eat away at Mondo. When Chihiro approaches him for help training and reveals his own secret to Mondo, a dark and ultimately lethal jealousy takes hold -- that someone as physically vulnerable as Chihiro can face down his own deep dark secret without even flinching and such determination to be stronger. Something in Mondo absolutely snaps as he is confronted with his own weaknesses and he blacks out and strikes Chihiro over the head with a dumbell, and ends up killing him.
At the ensuing school trial, Mondo has to face down the realities about himself, and in a way almost seems to come to shaky terms with it -- at the very very end. The truth about him comes out, his weakness is exposed and his life ends. But he voices a regret that he would not be able to keep his promise after all.
Mondo also has a softer side that even Naegi notes upon. Despite his willingness to fight at the drop of a hat, he also seems quite gregarious and eager enough to make friends. What starts out as a bitter argument between him and Ishimaru that leads to a sauna death match ends up with the two of them becoming excellent friends, even referring to each other as "brother" after the fact. He is also quick to insist that once they escape from this place he will take Naegi riding and show him how much fun it is to drive a motorcycle. With Chihiro, when the other is in tears, he hastily promises not to yell anymore so as not to make him cry again. He also makes a special effort to preserve Chihiro's secret, as he promised to, even after his death.
Beyond this, it turns out that the super high school level gang leader also has a soft spot for small, cute things. His childhood dog who he speaks of with tremendous affection was a Maltese named Chuck. Mondo expresses quite a bit of sadness over his pet's death and talks fondly about all the tricks that the dog used to do. Naegi remarks (to himself) that it's surprising that a guy like Mondo didn't have a Doberman or something else equally tough and intimidating. He's also incredibly awkward at times -- admitting that when he gets nervous, he starts to shout and can't help it. He even comments that this has really hampered his ability to ever get a girl, and that because of his nervous yelling he has struck out ten times in a streak. Mondo is certainly not the smoothest, but he does at least seem to be aware of this lacking suaveness.
Compared to many of his classmates, Mondo is not the brightest bulb on the tree. He's not an idiot, but it's clear that his emphasis has been on his life with the gang and not on education or schooling. However, he is quite self-aware of this fact. He mentions that he knows he isn't smart like his classmates and would not be able to get into university. He even admits to Naegi that he is genuinely afraid of what life has in store for him after high school, when he'll have to leave leadership of the gang to someone else. Despite the confidence and cockiness he projects, Mondo is a bit insecure, and worries that he has doomed himself by focusing on having fun with the gang. However, he's also easily reassured. He says that he would like to become a carpenter, since he's spent his entire youth breaking and destroying things, that he would like a chance to build them instead.
Over all, Mondo is a deeply flawed individual. He is quick to anger and quick to react, but not always quick to think. He wraps himself in the illusion of being too strong to need anyone or to fail, but all this is to hide the inner weaknesses that he is terrified about others knowing. Once he kills Chihiro though, he is forced to face these weaknesses for what they are, and may have managed quite a bit of personal growth -- if he hadn't been executed so soon after. He does care about his friends though, striving to be a man of his word, to all his classmates as well as his brother. He has dedicated his life to leading his gang the best that he can, even if he's aware that it does not leave much future for him once he steps down. He's surprisingly self aware at times, even if he tries very very hard to fool himself about his own strength and weaknesses.

[The video turns on to reveal, well, mostly the pointy end of an overly-ambitious pompadour. Slowly though, Oowada leans back and his face comes into focus. There's a thoroughly displeased curl to his lips, brow furrowed heavily. It's impossible to tell from video alone, but he's gripping the communicator as though he's trying to strangle the life out of it entirely. He probably is. For a moment more he glowers before finally speaking up.] The fuck is going on?
What sick jackass thinks this is a joke? I don't know how I got here, and I don't care what the damned booklet says, none of this shit makes any sense! Stuck here? Given a random tat that has nothing to do with my gang and told I gotta have sex to live here?
[The video feed jumps about as Oowada shakes his communicator violently.] I ain't doing it!
It doesn't even make sense that I'm here to begin with. Unless that fucker... [A pause and his eyes widen.] I DON'T CARE ANYMORE! I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU FOR THIS THIS TIME YOU FUCKING BEAR!!!!!
"Zodionlogs" Third-Person Prose Entry:
Mondo had very nearly sprinted the entire way to his apartment once he'd gotten the text message. He needed somewhere private to think about it, to sort out his thoughts, his confusion. That strange place, the new tattoo on his arm, the gilded ceiling. All the talk about worship; who the hell called sex that anyway? The letter -- he couldn't call it cryptic, but he could call it confusing. None of it made sense. He was dead. He'd died. Been executed. Like he deserved.
There was nothing but relief as he finally slammed the door to the apartment behind him. This was his, was it? He kicked off his shoes and stepped in, curious. The shades were drawn, closed, blocking all daylight save for one stubborn sliver that valiantly crept in along the edge of the blinds, stark and bright like a scar against the bare wall.
All of this, after all that had just happened with the trial, with Monobear, with Fujisaki... His head hurt. His eyes hurt. His entire body was restless, unable to keep still, even within the confines of this small space.
Mondo paced, bare feet still falling heavily on the floor, as though he may as well have been wearing his shoes. Or maybe it was simply that any sound in this silence sounded as though it were screaming. He couldn't tell. His hands clenched in fists at his side, fingers splaying intermittently before recurling into a tighter fist, process repeating and repeating. He needed to get out of here. He needed to go feel the wind on his face, see what this weird ass place was like. He needed to figure out how in the hell he was even alive to begin with.
But he couldn't leave. He couldn't. Because out there, in the sea of otherwise unfamiliar faces, what if his classmates were here? What if this was the next awful game that bastard bear was playing? What if his friends were here? They were there at the end, when he'd been buried under his own slip up, when he'd been discovered as the true murderer he was. They'd seen his weakness paraded in front of them, witnessed the very worst of his life. They knew what he'd done to Fujisaki. And worse than anything else, somehow, what if Fusjisaki were here too? It made as much sense as it could -- if he were alive, why wouldn't his classmate have that possibility too? But just that knowledge had him shaken. Oh he wanted to think that the hacker could be alive, that the consequences of his own idiot actions be undone. He wanted to believe that. But it still didn't change anything. He couldn't face them anyway. He was afraid.
More afraid than he'd even been. A coward again, too weak to face what he'd done, to face the hatred and the guilt sure to follow, the hatred and the guilt he deserved.
"Damn it!" He shouted, his voice loudest of all in the quiet room. All at once he was aware of a sharp, throbbing pain in his hand, and his eyes dropped to see his fist buried in the now-dented sheetrock of the wall. Had he? When had he-- Damn it. Still not even strong enough to control his temper, even when it was just him. He drew his hand back, frowning at the faint smear of blood left behind on the wall. His knuckles were scraped, at least one looking vaguely out of place, swelling already starting.
"Fucking hurts..." he muttered to himself. But then, that was what he deserved too. He deserved much, much worse. Really, he'd thought his execution had been fitting enough punishment. For what he'd done, he deserved to die, didn't he? What he'd done to Fujisaki, to Daiya, to his gang. To everyone. And if it had ended there, maybe things would have been better. But he was living and breathing again, and that made everything more complicated. Then again, maybe that was the weaker way out too, to think that death was the answer.
He... he really was a coward, after all, wasn't he? His gaze flickered over to the door to the outside. He'd have to face it sometime, wouldn't he? He couldn't run forever. He'd never run from a fight before, and now was a shitty time to start. Wincing at the sudden surge of renewed pain as he clenched his fingers into a fist once more, he nodded to himself. Head on into it. That had to be the way.
As for the wall, well, he'd hang a poster over it.
